Professional solar panel installation in progress

Our Short Timeline: What to expect during installation

From the initial site survey to the final commissioning of your system, we break down our seamless in-house process so you know exactly what happens at every stage.

Deciding to go solar is exciting, but we know the installation process can feel like a mystery. What actually happens between signing up and switching on your new system?

At Thermohome Solar, we've refined our process over years of installations across Wiltshire and the South West. Here's exactly what to expect during our streamlined short timeline.

Stage 1: Your Free Home Survey

Everything starts with a detailed assessment of your property. One of our experienced surveyors will visit to:

  • Assess your roof - orientation, angle, shading, and structural suitability
  • Review your electrical system - consumer unit, meter position, and any upgrades needed
  • Understand your usage - we'll look at your bills to right-size your system
  • Answer your questions - this is your chance to ask anything

After the survey, you'll receive a detailed proposal showing exactly what we recommend and why, along with projected savings and a fixed quote.

Stage 2: Design and Planning

Once you've approved the proposal, our design team gets to work immediately:

  • System design - finalising panel layout for maximum generation
  • DNO notification - we notify your electricity distributor (required for all solar installations)
  • Scaffolding planning - arranging safe access to your roof
  • Equipment ordering - reserving your panels, inverter, and any batteries

You don't need to do anything during this stage we handle all the paperwork and logistics to keep things moving fast.

Stage 3: Scaffolding Erection

Shortly before your installation, our scaffolding team will arrive to set up safe working platforms around your property. This typically takes half a day.

What to expect:

  • The scaffolders will need access around your property
  • We'll always give you advance notice of arrival times

Stage 4: Installation and Commissioning

This is where the magic happens. Because we aim for a short timeline, our fully employed, MCS-certified installation team works efficiently to get you live:

The Installation

  • Mount the rails and fixings onto your roof
  • Install the solar panels and run cabling
  • Install the inverter (and battery if included) and connect to your consumer unit

Commissioning and Handover

  • Full system testing - ensuring everything generates as expected
  • MCS certification - your official certificate for warranty and SEG registration
  • Handover and training - showing you how to monitor your system and understand the data

After Installation: Ongoing Support

Our relationship doesn't end at handover. As a Thermohome Solar customer, you get:

  • Monitoring support - we can remotely check your system is performing correctly
  • Warranty handling - if anything goes wrong, we deal with manufacturers directly
